Sarah Sentilles grew up in Texas and received her BA in Literature from Yale. She taught elementary school in Compton, CA, an experience that is the subject of her first book Taught by America: A Story of Struggle and Hope in Compton. She then earned her MDiv and ThD from Harvard Divinity School. She was awarded the Billings Preaching Prize, was the managing editor of the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, and founded a WomenChurch community. She teaches critical thinking at California State University, Channel Islands, and lives in California.
